PWC Black Team: 2024 Fall Competitive Folkstyle Team

Competitive, commitment based Folkstyle team for upper elementary and junior high wrestlers with experience, plus the desire and ability to prioritize wrestling in the fall. This program is not a recruitment of the most currently skilled or talented wrestlers. It is an opportunity for any focused wrestler who can commit to the fall program to advance their skills, train and compete with other motivated wrestlers and be a part of a fun, supportive team with experienced coaching.

*We will continue to hold our regular winter session starting in January for all elementary ages and skill levels.

Season Dates: September 5 - November 30 (no practice Monday, September 2 due to Labor Day)
Practice Days/Times:
  • Mondays, 5:30-7:00pm
  • Thursdays, 5:30-7:00pm
  • Saturdays, 9:00-11:00am
All practices are at Kenilworth Junior High School. We only intend to take Thanksgiving off.

Tournaments:
  • We expect to attend around 5 Northern California Tournaments. The schedule will be released toward the end of summer when Northern California associations typically begin publicizing their events. We do know that we will be attending the Wild West Folkstyle Tournament in the Sacramento area on October 6th. Most tournaments occur on Sundays and involve travel of up to two hours, but there could be some Saturday events as well.
Swag and Participant Fees:
  • The enrollment fee ($350) will include a special PWC Black warm up uniform that will look slick. Singlets are a separate cost and a team store will open soon so they can be purchased. The singlet is the same as last year’s PWC standard navy blue and white - we aspire for those who have already purchased a singlet to have a trade in option when a new size is needed.
  • A current USA Wrestling Athlete Membership (paid separately to USA Wrestling) is required. The new membership year starts September 2024.

Eligibility: PWC Black Team wrestlers should:

  • Be enrolled in grades 5-8 during the 2024/2025 School Year. We are open to accepting younger wrestlers if they have experience, maturity, and dedication.
  • Have a significant amount of wrestling experience with PWC or another wrestling club and competition experience.
  • Prioritize wrestling over other sports and activities during the fall season. Athletes must plan to attend 90% or more of the practices and the vast majority of the tournaments. We are asking for a higher level of commitment in part to assure that there are an adequate number of practice partners. Additionally, practices will have scope and sequence and cover technique that builds upon itself. It is our experience that wrestlers who attend practices consistently see the most advancement in their wrestling skills.
If you have a wrestler that would like to be on the PWC Black Team, please complete THIS APPLICATION as soon as possible. There is a screening application for this season because we want to ensure that anyone who joins the team has some previous wrestling experience, can make a strong commitment to the fall program and is serious about advancing wrestling skills. We will get back to anyone who completes the application within two weeks of submission with a response and/or registration information.

For scholarship inquiries, please email petalumawc@gmail.com. Petaluma Wrestling Club believes that all individuals should have access to youth wrestling.
